Secretary Paderanga Delivers Keynote Message at the 2nd National Forum on Rio+20
NEDA Secretary Cayetano W. Paderanga, Jr. delivered the keynote message during the Second National Forum on RIO+20 held on 12 April 2012 at the Discovery Suites, ADB Avenue, Ortigas Center. The event was one of the several preparatory activities for the Philippines participation in the RIO+20 Conference to be held at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on June 20-22, 2012. It also aims to validate and enhance the Philippines Rio+20 Report.
In his talk, Sec. Paderanga said the Philippines reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development. “We believe the RIO+20 Conference can be instrumental in reaching new consensus and commitment from nations to develop a new and integrated approach to sustainable development,” he added.
The Philippine RIO+20 draft report was presented by Dr. Germelino M. Bautista, consultant for the Philippines’ Rio+20 Report. Agriculture Staff (AS) Asst. Director Luisa L. Jolongbayan presented the Updates on the Philippine Preparations for Rio+20 while AS Director Sheila Marie M. Encabo discussed the Way Forward which also include possible post-Rio activities for the country. UNDP Philippines Country Director Dr. Renaud Meyer presented the UN’s Post-2015 Development Agenda and the fate of the
MDGs in line with the possible outcomes of the Rio+20 Conference.
Among the reactors to the Rio+20 Report were former NEDA Secretary Cielito F. Habito, former NEDA Deputy Director General Raphael Perpetuo M. Lotilla, Secretary Mary Ann Lucille Sering of the Climate Change Commission and Asst. Secretary Eduardo Meñez of the DFA-UNIO. Also present were Undersecretary Gerundio Madueño of the Department of Agrarian Reform and Commissioner Heherson Alvarez of the Climate Change Commission. PCSD Advisors namely: Presidential Adviser on Climate Change Elisea Gozun,Dr. Candido Cabrido of the UP-SURP, Atty. Antonio La Viña of the Ateneo School of Government, and, Ms. Karen Tañada of the Gaston Z. Ortigas Peace Institute, also attended the Forum.
The Forum was participated in by representatives from government, civil society, labor and business sectors. DENR Asst. Secretary Michelle Go delivered the closing remarks on behalf of Secretary Ramon Paje.
The event was spearheaded by NEDA AS.
