PCSD Secretariat conducts 1st phase training on capacity building for the development of the T21 Model for the Philippines
The PCSD Secretariat conducted the first phase training of the Capacity Building for the Development of the Threshold 21 (T21) Model last 10-28 August 2015 at the Development Academy of the Philippines, Pasig City. The T21 model will be utilized to ensure that the Philippines long-term vision – Philippines 2040 will facilitate the country’s attainment of sustainable development (SD).
The training was attended by the Philippine technical team composed of representatives from BSP, CCC, DBM, DENR, DOE, DOF, DOH, DOST, DOST-PAGASA, DOST-PCAARRD, DOTC, DPWH, DSWD, NNC, PopCom, PSA and NEDA Sector Staffs. Dr. Weishuang Qu, lead T21 model developer from the Millennium Institute, trained the Philippine technical team on basic skills on using vensim software and running the T21 model and simulating long-term scenarios. The team has also validated data requirements and initial parameters of the model to enhance customization of the model according to country’s development context.
To further customize the Philippine T21 model and ensure continuous harnessing of the technical team’s modelling skills, the upcoming second phase training will be conducted on 26-30 October and 2-13 November 2015. The second phase will cover advance one-on-one mentoring and coaching of the core technical team on policy simulation and further customization and enhancement of the Philippine T21 model through detailed review of the model parameters. The last phase of training is expected to take place in January 2016.
