Director Sombilla attends the 2nd HLPF Meeting on SD
The Philippines, represented by Director Mercedita Sombilla of the NEDA Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Staff participated in the 2nd meeting of the High Level Political Forum (HLPF) last 30 June to 08 July 2014 at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters, New York City, USA. The meeting was attended by representatives of 193 member states, intergovernmental organizations, other entities of the UN system including major groups and other stakeholders.
With the theme, “Achieving the Millennium Development Goals and charting the way for an ambitious post-2015 development agenda including the Sustainable Development Goals”, this forum discussed issues and requirements for the smooth transition from the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) framework to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework and its eventual implementation.
The meeting consisted of Moderated Dialogues on a number of topics from the SD agenda that tackled issues on: sustainable consumption and production (SCP), means of implementation, science, the future of the HLPF, among others. Delegates also exchanged their views during the Ministerial Segment that focused on issues pertaining to: implementing Rio+20 outcomes, climate change, poverty eradication, multi-stakeholder partnerships, international cooperation, and preparing the HLPF for the implementation of the post-2015 development agenda and reviewing progress.
Director Sombilla, also the Head of PCSD Coordinating Secretariat, made two country interventions on: 1) Building resistance of countries in special situation; and 2) Shaping the forum for post-2015 development agenda.
The meeting resulted to the adoption of the Ministerial Declaration of the HLPF containing the agreements and outcome of the dialogues and deliberations.
