THE GOVERNMENT, in preparation for the Earth Summit next year, has begun a series of consultations with business, labor and civil society groups to assess what the country has so far achieved in relation to its environmental commitments in the last 20 years, a statement released yesterday by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) said.
The 2012 Earth Summit — or the Rio+20 Conference — will be held on June 4-6, 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. “We’re working on a position paper,” said NEDA Director-General Cayetano W. Paderanga in an earlier interview, referring to the Philippine Rio+20 Report which is a consolidation of assessments of implementing the Philippine Agenda 21 (PA 21).
The PA 21, adopted in September 1996, is the country’s action plan on sustainable development. (from Business World / Nation)
